Building on the approved MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) Renewed Curriculum Framework, this updated course map will be included in the second, more detailed UBC Senate submission. This course structure reflects the standardized MEDD course codes, shows FLEX time divided by academic year, and contains similar aggregate instructional and vacation time to the current MDUP curriculum. Student and committee feedback was integral to the development of this renewed structure.
The second UBC Senate package is currently under internal Faculty of Medicine review. It will go to Senate committees and sub-committees in August and September, before going to the full UBC Senate in October, 2014. This document connects the initial framework elements, such as systems, themes and case order, with the course map (above) to guide the upcoming detailed course and assessment design.
Systems and themes will be integrated across the program through the course learning outcomes. Each course will also have a set of clinical week cases (topics) that are organized developmentally. Spiraled integration will ensure that the curriculum builds from basic concepts to more complex ones by revisiting topics at different stages throughout the program. Course Leads will ensure integration within courses, while Theme Leads and System Chairs will focus on developmental progression of each theme and system across the four year curriculum.
