November 2015 Newsletter

Sent on behalf of Assistant Dean, Curriculum Dr. Adam Peets, and Director of Assessment Dr. Geoff Payne.

Year 1 of the renewed curriculum started on Monday August 24, 2015 at 8am, with 292 new students attending their first day of the MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP). Hundreds of individuals have worked tirelessly over the past six years since the formation of Dean’s Task Force on MD Undergraduate Curriculum Renewal (DTFCR) to make this happen.

Dr. David Snadden addressing the students.

The new students started medical school with a Welcome Address from Musqueam Elder Larry Grant, Faculty of Medicine Dean Dr. Gavin Stuart, and Associate Dean Admissions Dr. Bruce Fleming. They then heard presentations from MEDD 410 – Transition into Medical Education Course Directors Drs. Gurdeep Parhar and Amil Shah on the renewed curriculum, the expectations of the medical profession, and what they could expect in the coming four years.

The atmosphere was upbeat and filled with excitement as the students and their accompanying family members mingled with members of the Faculty of Medicine and fellow colleagues. To get a sample of the energy, watch this 25 second video of the Class of 2019.
